I Think I May Have An Eating Disorder?
I think I may have an eating disorder. Not a typical one. Im not super skinny. I don’t binge eat or throw up. My symptom is that I can’t stand to have people or animals watch me eat. I have to eat in secret from other people and I have a hard time eating out in public. Like, when we eat dinner at home, I have to eat at the kitchen table, my boyfriend on the couch, and the dogs in the kennels because they sit there and watch me it and it bothers me or else I go in the bedroom and eat if they are out. Does this sound like an eating disorder not otherwise specified? I am 6 feet tall and I weigh 230lbs. Do you think I need therapy over this or at least talk to me g.p. about it? What do you guys think? I’m a 3rd year psych student and I can’t figure this out either. Thanks!
Well, you don’t have to be super-skinny or skinny at all to have an eating disorder.
This sounds more like some kind of phobia or anxiety, more so than an eating disorder. You can look up the signs of Anorexia and Bulimia and see if you exhibit any of the other classic signs.
Are you eating the proper portions of foods? Are you eating a balanced diet? Do do purge? Do you binge eat? Do you over exercise?
If you have a normal diet, then again, I think this might have to do with some anxiety issue.
How do you personally feel about your weight? Do you worry about how others will perceive you if they see you eating? Maybe you subconsciously are concerned about your weight and worry about how others see you when you eat.
