
Why are my muscles getting more knotted this long after an auto accident?
The accident was in February. I was in rough shape for a bit, but had been getting better slowly but surely through physical therapy, massage, and chiropractic care. At this point my muscles (sometimes all over my body, sometimes just in my shoulders, neck, back, hips, and butt) are very tense, and activity seems to make it worse rather than better, even though everyone keeps telling me it should. I tried yoga a few weeks ago… nothing crazy, just gentle beginner’s stuff that I’d done like a dozen times before the accident, and I was in pain for days afterwords. I went swimming for an hour or two yesterday, and today the muscles all over my body are extremely tense. Today my massage therapist couldn’t get most of the tense muscles to let go. Even just spending a lot of the day moving around without working out or heavy lifting makes me drained and tense the next day.
The accident really wasn’t even that bad. :-S
