Should I go on to get a masters?
I am a single parent whose main goal is to obtain a job I like with a high enough income so as to not be dependant anymore. I am graduating with a bachlors in sociology in december of 07. I want to get a masters in family and consumer science. I would like to teach women and children or work in healthcare/public health. I don’t really know exactly what I want to be when I grow up. However, I have been part time for so long i need money to improve my quality of life, but the saying goes the longer you stay out, you won’t go back. What should I do, i don’t have a great GPA, single with three kids, and the masters program is a fast track one year program.
I would suggest it, but I would also highly recommend learning a foreign language as well, especially Spanish.
A woman I worked with had her masters in Social Service, but was working as a cashier at a restaurant; she couldn’t speak Spanish and was having trouble finding a job because of it. Even if a certain position doesn’t require that you be able to speak another language, many people striving for the same job probably can, and they will have an advantage over you.
