Has Anyone Ever Had a Child Who Can’t Say Sentences On Their Own But Only Repeats Words Right Back To You?
Our 4-year-old daughter has not been officially diagnosed with anything yet, but she is in an Early Intervention Program with Autistic children all have more severe cases than she has.
Is there a light at the end of this tunnel? Can she be Autistic? Has anyone experienced “eco-laria” in a child and experienced success?
I am so afraid she will be like this forever. I can’t stop crying for my 4-year-old daughter. I love her so much and I just want to carry on a little conversation with her so badly without her just “repeating” everything I say. We are getting her into speech therapy as well next week on top of her Early Intervention Classes 2.5 hours per day, 5 days per week. Will she ever “catch-up” to her age and learn to make friends outside of her brother (our son) who is 15-months younger than her?
Take a few deep breaths to calm yourself down, everything will be fine. The first thing I want to say is, regardless of if she is autistic or not, you do love her and that makes all the difference. That being said, I’ve heard of numerous cases where autistic people grow out of autism. Also, there are many levels of autism and your child, IF autistic, could have something less severe than other autistic children.
Now with all of this in mind, I honestly don’t think this is part of autism. I think she just has a speech problem right now and could be developing a little slower than the rest of children her age. The speech therapist will be able to confirm what the problem is. I’m glad you’ve taken steps to correct the problem.
At least your child is speaking, right? I’ve heard and personally known many cases where children just won’t speak at all, they just point at things for a stage in their childhood. The two people I personally know who went through this are now very successful and normally functioning people, not autistic. I know this isn’t your scenario, but I wanted to let you know that worse things have happened and these people turn out to not be autistic.
Just try to relax and wait for what the speech therapist says. Also, don’t try to force her to do anything right now as it may make the problem worse because you’ll make the child become frustrated with herself.
