I was hit from behind and they have accepted liability?
I was hit from behind and I hit the car in front of me.My neck and back hurt a little. The insurance company is going to fix my car and has offered to give me $750 to settle any injuries. I think this too low. This is my question. If I decide to get an atty and go to therapy for a few months, would I be compensated more than if I deal with the insurance company directly and have them compensate me based on the medical records and chiropractic visits? Thank you.
Not necessarily.
When you start racking up medical bills for the purpose of getting a larger settlement, you are asking for trouble. Just because you have more bills, does not mean you get more money.
Only seek more medical treatment because you actually need it.
An attorney will take 1/3 of any settlement you get as his fee. So, if the attorney can get the insurance company to pay 1/3 more on your claim then they would with out him…then you break even.
If you settle on your own – the settlement gets divided between you and the medical providers. The pie is shared by 2. parties
If you hire an attorney- the settlement gets paid out to the attorney and the medical providers and you get what’s left. The pie is divided between 3 parties.
You just have to decide – is it worth it to give 33% of any settlement you get to an attorney.
No one here can tell you what to do. There is no where near enough information about your situation. You will have to determine for yourself what to do.
