How long does full custody last if i get it?
The father of my son left us, is acting out of control has done abusive things to our son.I am wondering how long full custody is granted for, and is it cruel to get full custody even if he says he wants to see him yet his actions showed the total opposite??? He tells me after he finishes therapy they can grant him custody too???? HELP
Your question is very complicated. You don’t say if you live here in the states, or for that matter what state. As each state has different laws. Full time custody usually lasts, unless the person who has the child does something to cause this to change.
For this to change, a new court appearance would be required. Evidence shown that the other party can handle and provide for half of the custody. If the Father has drug issues, mental issues, family & work issues. He’d have to work really hard to get these all worked out for the court to change the custody of your child.
He is saying a lot of things in anger. So, don’t allow the drama going on to impact you. Take it with a grain of salt and hope that he means it. That he will get his life straightened out, so that you can raise this child to have both a Mother and a Father. Bear in mind how much he loves the child and probably you as well. He is hurting without the two of you in his life. You created this child together, you need to help him pull his life together. Men aren’t as strong as women are. Good Luck
