Any way to speed recovery after metatarsal surgery?
I broke my foot almost exactly 6 weeks ago. I was in a soft cast because I had been in a car accident and had A LOT of swelling to the area even before the surgery. I had broken my first metatarsal directly behind the ball of my foot which I then had two 3 inch pins inserted. I had the pins removed 5 days ago and am now in an air cast but I’m still on crutches. The doc told me I can put 50% weight on my foot for two weeks, then 75% for two weeks, then 100% for two weeks before being able to remove the cast. Basically at this point, I’m so sick of crutches I could cry. Anyone know of any ways to speed up this recovery? I don’t have physical therapy so I don’t know of any strengthening exercises or anything that may help me out (aside from to stretch my ankle with a towel). Any feedback from anyone who has been through something similar is welcome.
Make sure you do everything the doctor says to do. Also, using ice will help a lot. If your doctor didnt tell you to do exercises, then I wouldnt do them .You dont want to risk breaking something else. But just a few easy exercises might help get some strength back. Look up some exercises online
