Not sure who to go to first for therapy?
I want to seek professional help for anxiety. Who is better to go to first? I am considering going to a psychiatrist in case I need meds, but am wondering if they actually spend time to talk to you like a psychologist or therapist? I want to be able to talk about my problems as well and not just be given a prescription after a 10 minute consult. Any help will be appreciated!!
I went to a Psychiatrist first and he diagnosed the problem and prescribed medicine, then he asked me questions about preferences regarding therapists (woman or man, religious or not, etc.) and referred me to a Psychologist that was a good fit. I see the Psychiatrist every 6 months for medicine check-ups and the Psychologist weekly for talk therapy.
