Cleaning my horse’s sheet?
Right now, we’ve hit a fairly warm spell in Tennessee so my gelding isn’t wearing his clothes. I intended to just throw his sheet back on him for when he stays out at night, but when I picked it up, I had discovered that the barn cat where my horse is boarded decided to pee on the sheet.
So I’ve brought the sheet home to throw in the wash, but I’m not sure what kind of soap I should use to clean it. The little tag on the inside says no detergent so I was wondering what I should use to clean it. Would detergent be fine as long as I stick the sheet in for an extra rinse cycle?
I’d use Woolite, All free clear, or Dreft to avoid irritating your horse’s skin but the tag probably says not to use detergent to keep the sheet waterproof. So I’d just wash it and then after it drys spray it down with scotch guard. I always just wash my stuff outside and scrub with blue dawn and then spray with scotch guard. But that’s because I my horse wants to be a mud monster and I hate to put a blanket that dirty in my washing machine.
