What is your career?
I’m 17 and I am about to start college. I am going to do all of my basics first at a community college and by then i’m hopeing i know what i want to do so i can trasfer to a university. Well the problem is I’m not really sure what i would be interested in i get bored really easy. I was going to get into the medical field but i dont really like it and i was thinking about doing physical theapy or massage therapy but alot of people say that my size may be and issue (4′ 7 96lb) and i’m not even sure if i woul like that. So i want to know what is your profession and some pros and cons so i can get an idea of whats out there. Thank you so much.
I’m only 22 and I’m an accountant. The reason I decided to do this is because we are paid the most straight out of college next to engineers. Eventually I will leave this sector, but let me tell you why this profession is a great launching pad.
In accounting you do either tax or audit/assurance. Tax is extremely technical and rigid with tremendous overtime and minimal person to person contact. Audit, on the other hand is much more people oriented and you travel to a variety of clients to make sure they are in compliance with different standards (basically that they are not committing fraud and financials are in order). Every client is different and since you do walkthroughs and spend time at the client site, you inherintely get an understanding for how businesses in different fields operate. If you decide to start your own business at some point you will have a solid background.
Honestly, accounting is not the most riveting field and the turnover (amount of people that come and go) is the highest out of any industry. Because of this the compensation is high. A good thing is that accountants are considered professionals on par with doctors and lawyers, which yields instant credibility.
Finally, you network so much and most of the people in this business end up doing other things in life, many of them being very successful. Accounting majors comprise the highest percentage of CEOs.
