Power Loss Gym Machine

Power Loss Gym Machine
Why have I stopped losing weight even after I joined a gym and started a diet plan???

I started seriously dieting and joined a gym in November 2007. I was going about 3 times a week and lost 12 pounds. I got motivated after the weight loss and decided to start going every day starting Feb.’08 and do even more exercising, but since then, I have not lost any more weight.

My diet consists of about 1,000-1,200 calories a day.

I limit my carbs to about 70 per day.

I have a thryroid condition which I DO take medicine for.

At the gym, I power walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes and work up a good sweat and heartbeat. The next 45 minutes I do weight machines…..100 sit ups @ 47 lbs, 100 push downs for tricepts @ 39 lbs and 100 pull downs @ 40 lbs. plus a few more misc. exercises on other machines.

It has now been over a month and my weight has not gone down.

I do not cheat on my diet.

Can someone give me some advice or at least tell me if they have gone through the same thing?

You might have hit a plateu. But you have just started so just be patient. But if you feel that you need to try to shake out of a plateu. To help jumpstart new results, you will need to change things up and challenge your body. It is like giving your body a shock. See, after your body gets used to a particular thing, it is time to move on to prevent the stand still. So I would suggest that you try interval cardio. So like for example, lets say that you are on the elliptical… you could warm up for 5 mins at a low level just to get your blood going and your body and mind mentally prepared. Then jump up 2 or 3 levels higher and move faster for 1 min. And then bring the level down by 1 and move slower for 2 mins for recovery. Then move up 2 levels higher and do that for 1 min, and then back down to the lower level for another 2 mins for recovery. Try doing this repeatedly for the remainder of your time. You will definately burn off more calories and challenge your heart. This is one of the best things to do when your at a stand still in the weight because it kind of gives your body a shock and it continues to challenge you mentally & physically. It is never a good thing to stay too comfortable with the same type of workout.
And if you don’t have a machine like this at home or a membership at the gym, then you can try running/jogging outside. But instead of just running on a flat level, you can try to jog up some small hills and then gradually build up to some larger and steeper hills (over time of course so that you don’t end up causing any pain to your knees, legs, ankles, feet, etc.)
You could also try biking, hiking (which is incredible! It burns so many, many calories and is really challenging…. but you could try starting some lower and beginning hikes), jumping rope, hula hooping, etc. Oh and a fun thing to do in your own home is to play one of those dance video games (a totally new and fun way to burn calories) or you could do one of those excercising videos.
Also if you feel like trying something new, kickboxing is a crazy and intense class that would help tone many body parts. Hopefully something will appealing to you. Good luck, stay motivated and remember, we all go through plateus. Also don’t forget that the number on the scale does not define you!
