I want to start BJJ, but am completely out of shape. How should I get the ball rolling?
I do not want to waste anyone’s time, or my money. I would rather spend a few months at least building up some basic physical fitness before throwing myself in the fire. I’m sure the classes themselves are the best preparation for the next class. But I am looking for something I can do at my gym BEFORE enrolling. Thanks.
Mental preparedness is a big part of the conditioning.
One of my coworkers was in bjj and he was sparring with someone close to 300lbs.
It maybe better for you to just get started by going to a class.
Some schools allow a free class to try it out.
If you insist on trying to “get in shape” before going to class, then I recommend bodyweight exercises.
You have to do some high repetitions, but I guarantee that theyll be hard enough that you probably will want to quit doing them. And thats part of the point.
Make yourself do a few hundred squats, pushups,several minutes of bear crawls and nonstop moving for about 5-15 minutes.
