Magnetic wraps for arthritis- do they work; how long to leave them on?
My horse has been diagnosed with arthritis in a few of his joints, including his hocks. He’s on a really good supplement (SmartPak’s Senior Flex) which helps him move fluidly and without pain, and I also use Thermaflex liniment on his joints before riding to increase the blood flow to the bad areas. He’s doing really well with these things, but I’m always looking for ways to optimize his comfort, so I was looking into maybe trying magnetic hock wraps for him. Do they work, and how long can they be left on for at a time? Like, could he have them on overnight while he’s in his stall (from approximately 6pm-7am)?
Mythbusters did an episode on using magnets for healing. They concluded that the magnets don’t’ work. The magnetic field from a normal magnet does not penetrate the skin enough to increase blood flow as is claimed. Stronger magnets could potentially do that, but they would not be safe to handle.
