Using sound waves/vibrations to detect diseases?

So I have this ultra crazy idea but it seems almost logical to me, in a way. If you sent sound waves or vibrations through a healthy person, then they would come back even and normal according to that persons mass. However if you sent sound waves/vibrations through a person who, say, had cancer, would the sound wave/vibe come back differently? Or say if you sent them through someone with pnemonia would you the waves come back different then a person without it because maybe the congestion or imbalance in your body would change/modify the sound wave/vibration? I dont know if this is AT ALL possible and I’m like 14 so no harsh comments please…Do you think it would work though, maybe, after a few tweeks in the idea here and there??
I had a dream about it and I did ask my mom and she said that thats what they use that for (ultra sound) but I’m talking about other things not related to children and stuff, more hidden diseases such as cancer, pnemonia, etc.

EDIT: Yeah, it is used to detect cancer as well–especially in the abdomen, like liver/pancreatic/kidney masses. It’s not always diagnostic per se–it can’t tell you what type of cancer–but it is a great tool for detecting masses.

Otherwise regarding cancer, ultrasound is used for treatment of bone pain related to some forms of bone cancer. They’re doing it at University of Virginia. It’s incredible.
