Could a magnetic blanket cause this?
My friend suffers headaches only when she is in a particular room at the stable yard where she works. This has only started since a new horse rug was added to the room – a magnetic therapy one.
Could this rug cause the headaches? There is nothing else that we can think of.
I absolutely agree with dan. There is a lot of controversy over holistic therapies and many people are making a lot of money from them.
Magnetic therapy is the new “star” in this field and I have yet to hear from anyone, unless they sell, or have bought one of the rugs at great expense and don’t want to look a bit foolish at having done so, who can report that any effect, good or bad, has been found.
Electro-stimulation, as such, with electrodes placed on the skin, and a carefully dosed electric current is passed through the body, is, however, proved to be effective in pain relief and stimulating blod flow.
Magnets do give off an electric field, but it is so weak, it has little influence on anything other than highly conductive metal. If this really is the cause of your colleagues headaches, the I would think she would get them when using a mobile, mp4 player, electric toothbrush etc etc.
It is more likely, if it is the rug, to be chemicals used in the fabric itself, such as antifungicide, colour dye etc.
I hope your friend doesn’t suffer too long, but suggest she nevertheless sees her GP.
