Does anyone know of a reason not to have repeated chiropractic manipulation?
I have recently heard that repeated manipulation of the spine can be damaging and weakening in the long term and that anything that can’t be “fixed” by a single treatment needs a different treatment altogether. Does anyone have any personal experience or expertise in this field? I have had a back problem for years and only get temporary relief from chiropractic treatments, now I am concerned that the treatment might be part of the cause.
I think it depends on what the problem is, as sometimes it takes a number of sessions with a chiropractor to sort a problem. I’ve been seeing a chiropractor on and off for years, and have always benefited from the treatment, (which is why I go back). Out of all the people I know who have seen a chiropractor, none have had their problem sorted in one session. Why not talk to your chiropractor about your concerns? Or if you’d rather not, see if you can find an osteopath to go to. If it’s a muscular issue, not a bone one, perhaps go to a physiotherapist. It’s not wrong to ask for a second opinion if you’re not sure – after all, your health is important.
