Physical Pelvic Floor

Physical Pelvic Floor
Help! Pelvic floor dysfunction!?

I have seen 5 different doctors for my severe pelvic pain. My entire nether region feels like it has a sunburn (burning, tingling, heat, numb, etc). I have tested negative for all STD’s, yeast, BV, urine, vestibulitis, and such. No one can tell me what is wrong, or what I can do to end the pain. Someone mentioned finding a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction, but I live in a rural area and can’t find one within 3 hours. Are there any exercises I can do to help myself? Any information would be very, very appreciated.

(By the way, I don’t have insurance and have spent several thousand in the past 9 months going to doctors and having tests done.)

Thanks so much,
Dowgirl

It would be unethical for anyone to suggest exercises to you without examining you. Treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction is often erroneously associate with “kegals”…while an important exercise, only addresses a certain portion of the popluation with pelvic floor dysfunction. There are disorders of underactivity of the system and disorders of over activity (spasm). In one group of people, we want to “increase” activation of the system and in the other group, we want to “decrease” it. Therefore, recommending exercises at this point might actually worsen your condition if you are one of the latter people.

I know it sounds like a long journey, but I think it would be worth it to make a trip to at least have an assessment so you can figure out if you need exercise, biofeedback, or whatever.

Best wishes.
