My eye doctor, Dr. John Adams, referred me to Dr. Michael Bartiss for a second opinion on my diplopia.?
My eye doctor tried prisms on my eyes and nothing worked. He did many other tests as well. I am 17 years old. I have heard that a patch can be placed over the problem eye and it can go away. However, I am worried that vision therapy will not help because of my age. HELP!
Wearing a patch over one eye will make your double vision go away if your double vision is present only when you have both eyes open. Wearing a patch at your age will likely not worsen or improve your vision in either eye. If Dr. Bartiss is unable to help you and you see two of everything with both eyes open (and only one of everything with either eye closed), you may consider seeing a pediatric ophthalmologist or neuro ophthalmologist. Pediatric ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in strabismus (misaligned eyes) and diplopia (seeing double) in children and adults.
