Sould I really be worried about my friend’s warning regarding the dangers of inversion tables?
My friend is a physical therapist, and does mostly in-home visits for people recovering from illnesses and accidents. Last night, I mentioned to her that I was seriously considering getting some type of inversion table. I have very bad lower and upper back pain, and my posture is pretty poor. My friend’s response was, “Well okay, if you want to risk causing yourself to have a stroke, or an embolism or aneurism of some kind.” I was shocked. I’ve never heard of such a thing, but she swears it happens. Any advice from someone who is not as much of a know-it-all as my friend has a tendency to be?
My husband uses his inversion table everytime he has neck and back pains to ” pop” his vertebrae in place. He swears it helps. He hasn’t complain about any side effects. Moreover, I haven’t observed any health issue problems. such as those your friend mentioned.
Actually, this type of therapy is mentioned and encouraged in many articles I read on reversing degenerative diseases of the spine.
His inversion table cost him $600.00. He bought this before we got married. He has been using this for 15 years now.
The only precaution that he advises which I concur would be not to tilt it all the way almost upright. And when you’re ready to get off; do it slowly- assuming a squattiing position initially and gradually rising to recover your equilibrium and sense of balance. Otherwise, you might become dizzy and get disoriented and even get to the symptoms of BPPV ( benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) due to the sudden change of head positions.
